How to Plan for a Summer Move

Summers are fun and relaxing, and it's a great time to enjoy the warm weather and long sun-filled days. The summer is also a great time to transition into a new home, especially if you have kids. Moving during the summer will have less of an impact on your kids' routines and their sleep schedules, and for the majority of people, work responsibilities may be a bit lighter in the summer. If you plan a summer move, here are some helpful items to have on your moving checklist that is specific for this season.

BE PREPARED & DON'T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE Summer is one of the busiest seasons for movers. Moving companies are booked weeks and some even months ahead of time, so even if you're not moving for a few months, remember there is no such thing as too early. We recommend booking your moving company as soon as you know when you will be moving.

GIVE YOURSELF OF ENOUGH PREP TIME

Start packing your boxes and bags at least one month ahead of time. This will give you enough time to go through your belongings to organize your items while decluttering. We recommend beginning by getting rid of things you no longer need so that you won't have to pack, move, and unpack them in your new home.

LABEL YOUR BOXES

Be sure to label your boxes by rooms. For example, label the box all your kitchen items are going into as, "Kitchen" and the same goes for bedrooms, living rooms, bathrooms, etc. This will help the movers place the right boxes in the correct rooms in your new home.

HAVE A BOX OF ESSENTIALS ON HAND DURING THE MOVE

Don't forget the small things that can make a big difference on moving day. Be sure to pack a small bag of must need items that you can't go without, such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, brush, a change of clothes, etc.
